Ms. Nandhini .C, Intern
B.Tech (Horticulture) 2016, TNAU
Introduction
To encourage
the activity of Interiorscaping using things which are eco-friendly? Also
planting seeds which will produce plants useful for culinary purpose make this
activity effective for the homemakers. In other way it will be attractive for
the young children to do this activity by including their creativity too.

DEVELOPING AGRITOURISM IN INDIA

India being predominantly
an agriculture country, the tourism industry has not trapped the huge market of
Agritourism.
Agritourismis a form of tourism, which brings awareness about
agriculture. Agritourism can kindle interest to consumers, especially children
and thus enable a change of their view towards agriculture and help sustain the
farmer's life,
What
is agritourism?
Agritourism capitalizes on
rural culture as tourist attraction which is abundant in India. Agricultural
tourism can have significant benefits for farmers and communities. Agritourism
brings visitors to a farm or cattle ranch which gives a real firsthand
experience of agricultural activity. It’s one of the nature lovers travel
trail. Visitors have an opportunity to work in the fields along with the real
farmer very closely and share their invaluable knowledge. Agritourism provides
opportunities for diversification and economic incentives for growers and
educate the people about country’s economy and quality of life. It is one of
the excellent tool to educate the consumers about importance of agriculture.
What
are the activities involved in agritourism?
Various activities such as
livestock and crop care, breeding, cooking, cleaning, fishing, handcrafting,
fruit picking, participating on rural festivals, learning village lifestyles
and culture etc., and know about the traditional knowledge of plants and animal
care.
How
to develop agritourism?
Small farms should organize
working with farm advisers who could provide resources andprogramme plan for
conducting agritourism successfully. Prepare a directory and calendar
for agritourism by
forming a small group of farm owners each farm specializing on an attraction
for the visitor. Traditional knowledge and techniques should be documented and
shared to create interest to visitors. Tourist package for agritourism should introduce by tours and
travels operators. Ministry of tourism should encourage agritourism and
subsidies in various aspects. Educational institution and private organization
should arrange for an agritourism yearly ones to connect students to
agriculture.
Advantages
of agritourism
Ecology,
Farming, Fresh air, Simplicity, Peace and warm hospitality, personal
relationship between people and farmers. At the end also makes the visitors realize the
problems faced by the farmers in their day to day life.
“Agritourism
is one alternative for improving the incomes and potential economic viability
of small farms and rural communities to connect with consumers directly which
also develop employment and careers in farming”

BIOFENCES IN GATED COMMUNITIES
BY
Mr.Maharasan
Humans
have developed the tendency of building boundaries around the property
possessed by them. The primary objective is to indicate the limits, to prevent
un-authorised entry and encroachment. This is applicable not only for
agricultural farms but also for residential and public areas. The good old
methods of fencing using plants is called live fencing, where boundaries are
indicated by growing selective variety of plants that will grow dense with
little nourishment and serve as a entry barrier. Technological developments
have transformed the fencing methods into wired fencing, brick and concrete
walls leading to an adverse effect of damaging the natural eco-system. The
emerging awareness on the importance of green pasture maintenance has brought
back the traditional methods of fencing too. This positive trend is being
tapped in many dimensions to implement green environment, one-such is
bio-fencing. Usually bio-fencing is done mainly for agricultural farms and in
the residences of farmers. This article is an attempt to propose a methodology
of having bio-fences in and around the residential areas with a special focus
on gated Communities.
Bio-fences
not only act as a natural boundary for areas, but also serve as a nice eco
system that can be customized as per needs ranging from simple but tough
boundaries to monetary benefit yielding avenues. Bio-fences less expensive and
more useful than fences made of wood, barbed wire, or stone masonry. The other
advantages are reducing pollution and promoting an eco-friendly atmosphere with
options to control dust and conserve soil nutrients and moisture.
The
concept of Gated Community based townships are gaining popularity in India,
especially in the Information Technology Dominated States. Gated community is a
generic term that refers to a residential township especially in the outskirts
of the main city but with complete essential amenities. Such communities’ house
homes / villas, mini apartments, play area, health gym, primary health care
centres, shopping mall, garden, entertainment infrastructure, community hall,
etc with restricted entrances with covered boundary walls. Gated community
developers create well-planned layouts with sufficient place for housing,
amenities, parks, roads and other facilities by giving importance to create
green pastures. Instead of having plants and shrubs that serve ornamental
purpose, shrubs of herbal nature can be grown. Usually compound walls mark
boundaries between the villas, other amenities. Apart from parks, the internal
roads have man-made green pastures through small trees and shrubs. The idea
here is to have bio-fences around houses, public places like parks, places of
worship and community halls. Since the outer boundary is built with concrete
walls, internal bio fence implementation can be customized by selecting plants
that not only serve as mere boundaries, but also provide other benefits like
ornamental effect, herbs, insect repellents, curry leaves, flowering plants and
dust absorbents.
Residents
can be encouraged to create their own bio-fences with the support of voluntary
organizations. The villas can have bio fences made of plants that bear flower,
fruits and vegetables for their daily need.
The
idea of implementing bio-fence inside a gated community is practically and
operationally feasibly because already the builders have the required manpower
and the residents show interest on green surroundings.

TO MOTHER
by
Pranav.I
Dear mother
You gave me birth
Made me into a man...
Saving me every time
When I was lost in the mist...
You sat beside me
Protecting me
From evil spirits
Which wandered around me...
I have your soul
I breathe the air
Which you breathe...
My God you are
The eternal one...
No sorrow can attack me
When you are with me
You are my holy angel...
