Aathi Kumbeswarar Temple – Kumbakonam
The presiding Murti(deity) is 'Aathi kumbheswara' and His consort is 'Mangalambhika'. It is also one of the 64 saktibheta sthala (Mantrabheta sthala). Aathi Kumbeswara swamy is the main deity of the temple. Aathi is primordial origin implies ancitent or the first and the foremost. The Kumbeswarar is in Shiva Linga form which is a formless form - called aaru (formless) + uru (form) = aaruuru.
The shape of the linga is of very special significance it is of conical shaped lingam; this is a unique linga in the world. The Pururanas derives the meaning of the shape and the name. The city name Kumbakonam itself is derived from the name of God - Kumba and the slight angle of the Linga and hence the name "Kumbakonam".
During cosmic dissolution, a pot containing nectar (Amirta) was floating and lord Siva came in the disguise of a hunter and pierced the pot with an arrow, thereby making the nectar to flow through its nostril on all sides. Hence this place is named Kudamooku (kuda - pot; mooku - nostril or tip). The objects such as mango leaf, sacred grass (Tharppai), hoop (uri), Bell tree leaf (Bilva), coconut and the sacred thread (poonool) which adorning the pot fell into different places due to whirl wind. They appeared as Siva lingams and later on they became Siva temples. As per puranas the genesis of life happened by the Thiru Vilaiaadal (divine play) of God Shiva here, and from here all the living beings originated.
Aathi Kumbeswarar Temple located in Thanjavur main road of Kumbakonam city. It is 2 km from Kumbakonam bus terminal.

In everyday human life, people refer ocean to represent something, which is beyond human expectation or uncountable. It is true in the real sense that once contains such a wonderful world inside the sea where unbelievable creatures, beautiful plants and resources. Human beings are reaching to Absolute space (Siva kalam) as an Athma after leaving the physical body. For non-living things, ocean is considered as Siva kalam where everything is taken inside the ocean and transformed into another state. Human lives are more influenced by planets and ocean is exempted. In can be noticed in full moon and no moon day with water level goes up/down and lot of waves. Ocean has one special property, which is called current, and it can flow the water with certain velocity. Our ancestor understood the complete behaviour& nature of ocean, and ocean has been used in international business, and current has been used for supporting shipping transport. India was rich in the ocean navigation system, and it was ingrained in the cultural fabric of the country.
Do you believe that India was making world largest ships and had a book as Nava Shastra.Vasco Da Gama himself writes in his log book that Indian ships were ten times larger than European ships. People laugh at me if I tell this fact because of present situation of maritime industry in India. Ocean can be treated as a multilane highway without any extra effort from us. Current generation running behind money to save more money where health is kept considered as least priority. It is a fact that moneyis being used for medical treatment in later stage. God has given us good health and let us not give priority, at least do not neglect it. Same way, nature has given us the multilane high way, without using that spoiling our land for highways.
India is geographically well located and does not need any special need for human to run a life at any climates, especially south India. India has a coastline of 7517 km, which can be used for port development and transporting system in India. In Thiruvalluvar at his 100thkural, says that “When pleasant words are easy, bitter words to use, Is, leaving sweet ripe fruit, the sour unripe to choose."India is naturally rich for its climate, length of coastline. Two-thirds of the country is covered with ocean. Why are we not utilizing this resource? Making multilane road in land, which is equal to spoiling ourselves andaround us. God has given us wonderful waterways around our country to use for human excellences. Fact is that, our country is not used as other island country uses. Is it because of people are not aware of these natural benefits? Here, there are two reasons. Give less importance for future generation and the second point is“people do not love nature."
It is more evidence that India was rich in ship design, ship building and shipping. Where are we now? India is getting ship design and importing maximum equipment from foreign countries, but India is number one scrap yard in the world, and it gets all unused and expired ships here. India is producing the more than four hundred naval architect per years, and our people are there around the world in top most ship companies as an employee. Finland is such a small country in population when compare to India and yearly generating naval architect is less than 10% of India. However, it has got more than three companies for ship design and operation software development. Where as in India, not even a single company. It is not nice to blame other and instead let us encourage and provide an opportunity for young generation to enrich in this field as an employee and entrepreneur.
As an experienced Naval Architecture and having more than 18 years of experience in ship design, research, classification, consultancy, ship yard and software development. Forthcoming magazine, I would like to share my experiences, latest development in this field, research opportunity, business possibility, career advice and the current opportunity toYoungsters and future demand in this field. I see that lot of technology development is needed for maritime industry. As India is having the maximum percentage of young people in the country, lots can be contributed for the development of the maritime world.

Thoughts on Socially Responsible Software Engineering Practices
K.S. Maharasan,
Assistant Professor – Computer Applications, ERP Support Team Member (Centre for e-Governance), Karunya University, Coimbatore.
email: maharasan@gmail.com.
Gone are the days where people considered automation, especially computer based automation as a work force downsizing strategy. The present trend is the one where employees demand and insist on software based automation facilities to discharge their duties. ICT enabled business processes help the management and staff of any organization to render services effectively and efficiently. Software Engineering is the process that comprise of successive phases that are planned properly to transform the user requirements into a software application.
Social Responsibility is a vital characteristic essential not only for the corporate houses but also for the individuals. Corporate houses explicitly exhibit their CSR in many ways. The implicit method to exhibit CSR is to embed such CSR characteristics in their products and services. It is applicable for all corporate houses including software companies. The three main software engineering attributes that can incorporate social responsibility characteristics into the software products are:
I. Environment Friendliness
ii. Ergonomic Design and
iii. Reusability
If the above said characteristics are adopted in the software engineering practices, the outcome i.e. the software is environment friendly, user friendly and can be re-used. Thus the software engineering practices can also claim the share of their social responsibility practices.

Change - The Reality
Mrs. Malathy Sampathkumar
email: malathi_teacher@yahoo.co.in
Change – It is a only permanent thing in the world. We accept some changes for betterment of life but some, I feel, eroding our culture and values. I developed this feeling when I was on a trip to Manimangalam, near Tambaram.
A group of people, interested in History and architecture had a trip to Manimangalam and Somangalam which are known for very old pallava temples. There is a beautiful Shiva temple of thousand years old in Manimangalam where the historical battle between pallava king and Pulekesin ,Chalukya ruler took place. The walls of the temple are rich with inscriptions giving valuable information on pallava rulers. This place is commonly known as chathurvedi mangalam as the kings donated the land revenue for the Brahmins who taught four Vedas. The temple is surrounded by fertile agricultural land and a tank.
On the way to Somangalam a stone idol of a female was found along the paddy field. The person who knew about it stopped the vehicle and walked towards it. I wondered what is there in this sculpture? Why is he excited to see this?
The answer given was amazing and interesting. The lady in the statue is Thavvai meaning lady. She was considered as a symbol of fertility. She is sculpted with sagging huge belly and looks not bothered about external beauty. She holds children on her either side. The idol depicts a very caring home maker. She was worshipped by people. Later as time passed the images of Sridevi emerged and worshipped. The practice of worshipping thavvai disappeared.
What I interpreted from this is thavvai was giving more healthy and positive values to women like
Accept what and how we are
Beauty is not permanent
Focus more on family
Have good motherhood
The cultural heritage is not only about structures and architecture it is also composed of values we inherited from our ancestors and spreading it to next generation.

New things lead you to learn and gain more knowledge and keep yourself updated. Share your thoughts and ideas in your circle; get feedback of your approach for effective management. Making mistakes teaches us what not to do, so don’t be hesitant to learn from mistakes.
10. Patience is priceless
Nowadays patience in women is very less which leads them to lose their personal and social life. Analyze the problem patiently. Being independent is good but in our lifestyles to manage everything collaborative skills are very important. When we work together it stimulates others to higher levels and new ideas are generated. Mutual support leads to accomplish our goals in personal and professional life. Set your life simple and aim high. Hope this article will initiate you to move towards your goals.

GARDEN ENVIRON
Mrs.Munavarjan Sultankhan , Landscape Architect
Email: munna30@gmail.com
Why we need a Garden?
Astound to see around…..
I could see mirage faces……
Hiding behind a wrapping wound….
Puzzled to identify our own children…..
Woke up choked at the dream end…..
Thinking not to have it again……
People moving around with masked faces, protecting themselves from their own wounds, they inflicted to the environ. Fresh air, bottled from farms to supply for the needy!! So scary …..Where we are heading towards? There won’t be classes or races or castes in future, but humans with abundant oxygen & humans who purchase it!!!
The blue planet we live in is getting suffocated by too much dumping & polluted air. Are we not literally poisoning earth, blue? Does our conscious, question us when we slash down trees to have luxurious buildings? What is our aim of creating building, when we are least cared about our universal abode?
We are utterly violent to our mother nature, exploiting its sources to extreme. When are we going to resource it? It is a serious issue, which needs an urgent emphasis NOW.
The Whole environmental issues can be dealt with 3 solutions, Firstly save what we have left, secondly taking our own individual responsibility & lastly resourcing it by planting greenery everywhere.
The care of our environ begins from our homes, from our schools & from our children. Let’s start with “Solo home, solo plant & a Soul Garden”. Transform into a small garden, worried of lack of space? Just think, lack of air!! Now we made our mind & we will find ways to grow a Garden anywhere. 100% guarantee fresh clean air to breath. We will bring back our birds & I bet you will love their chirping sounds. What is the use of place without a tree to swing along, relax under its canopy & sip a cup of coffee? |
